Vienna Piano Academy

The international VIENNA PIANO ACADEMY WIENER KLAVIERAKADEMIE (previously “Vienna Young Pianists”) was founded in 2005 in Vienna by Susanna Spaemann, who is the artistic director of this summertime cultural event.

A maximum of 25 active participants receive individual piano lessons from members of our internationally renowned faculty, in the context of public master classes. Other features include workshops and lectures on topics related to piano playing and music in general. An excursion with cultural and culinary highlights offers the opportunity for discussions between participants and their teachers in a relaxed atmosphere. Active participants may perform a selection of their prepared repertoire in the Ehrbarsaal, a concert hall of historic significance.

Prizes will be awarded for outstanding performances. This year, we celebrate the 200th jubilee of Clara Schumann’s birth. For the best interpretation of one of her piano compositions, a money prize will be awarded. In addition, there will be a special award for an exceptional young talent in the form of a full recital in the Ehrbarsaal at the 2020 Academy.
